Biography of Carlos Kleiber

Carlos Kleiber (born Karl Ludwig Kleiber) was born on July 3, 1930, in Berlin. His father later emigrated to Argentina, fearing persecution from the Nazis. After the war, young Kleiber moved to Zurich, Switzerland, where he studied chemistry. From a very young age, he had a passion for music, which eventually turned into his profession.

In 1954, Kleiber made his conducting debut in Potsdam. In the following years, he worked in various cities in Germany and Switzerland. In 1968, he began his collaboration with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, which lasted until 1988.
